In 2016, I started to write a story to collect and further inspect the symbols, characters and other intricacies in the Metropolis Drawings series (which had been blooming in geography and lore). This eventually became a three part book, edging up to about 60,000 words. Metropolis is the story of the Traveler from the Clockworld as he is led around the city by Llagalard, a priestess guide. In the first book, Around the Walls, the pair travel the Metropolis’ great four cornered wall, arriving in the tower courts of the Eastern and Western Wizards, at the Southern Well, where the Norns tend their dream, and the northern mists of Absitru. In Below the Dome (just released) the Traveler is led through the three levels of the Metropolis’ great, central Dome. There he meets a populace tethered to the dance of the Hydra and the turn of the Athanor’s mysterious waters, as well as those orphaned by these same mechanisms of fate. Here, the Traveler learns of his true mission in the Metropolis, and Llagalard sees the vision which will require all to shift again. “The Metropolis'” final book is in progress now. As each of the three parts was/will be finished, I print a short run of 20-23 books, and hand paint each cover in ink with a different scene from the story. The books have been shown at VOLTA NY (with Galerie Jan Dhaese), Sediment Arts (Richmond VA), the Boston Art Book Fair 2017, An Art Book Affair at CCAD (Columbus, Ohio, curated by Jo-ey Tang) 2018 and Current Art, Richmond VA 2018.
